African Green Monkeys are a less commonly used primate model, but are no less important to research than other primate species.
While African Green Monkeys originate from Africa, researchers use African Green Monkeys that originate from St. Kitts & Nevis, and to a lesser extent Barbados.
The African Green Monkey is chiefly used in emerging infectious disease research.
The African Monkey also has AAV rates far lower than Cynomolgus & Rhesus Monkeys, and are a promising model for gene therapy.
